Kalispell Wedding Photographer, Kelly & Adam

This was wedding number three for Kelly and Adam, and boy were they ready to celebrate. Ironically, it was the first wedding they actually began planning, but then things began to happen. Little things, like global pandemics! So they first ended up with a civil ceremony at a courthouse in California. Then came the reception in Taiwan so some of Kelly's family that wouldn't be traveling to the U.S. for the festivities could share in the joy. Then—finally!—came the wedding and reception at Adam's dad's house here in the Flathead Valley. It was a fun and much-needed celebration—as with so many weddings originally planned for 2020—after postponements and uncertainty.

Kalispell Wedding Photographer, Sofiya & Collin at Diamond B

I initially met Sofiya and Collin this past winter for their engagement session over in West Glacier and Glacier National Park. Despite the frigid temperatures and numb hands we had a great time and captured some really beautiful moments.

After that session, it was of course only a matter of time before their actual wedding day arrived. And in typical Montana fashion, the weather played a role in the proceedings. Of course, it is to be expected that a June wedding will be warmer than a winter engagement session. What isn't as expected is a mid-June in Montana in the mid-90s temperature-wise. They opted for a ceremony inside the smaller barn at Diamond B Weddings instead of the riverside ceremony spot which I think all involved agreed was the right decision. It kept everyone in the shade and provided just the right amount of intimacy for their small wedding.

Montana Wedding Inspiration at Star Meadows Ranch, Whitefish, MT

This past fall Katie with Big Day Celebrations invited me to take part in a styled shoot at Star Meadows Ranch to celebrate their recently completed wedding and reception pavilion. It's an extremely cool space on the sprawling property that features open meadows, mountain vistas, and secluded wooded trails that are an amazing setting for a wedding, family reunion, or really any occasion where you might want to get friends and family together, particularly in these times where social distancing is prudent.

A huge thanks to Katie for organizing this and inviting me along, our models Cristine and Josh, and a shout out to the amazing team of vendors that made magic happen on this smokey September evening.

West Glacier Elopement Photographer, Ana & Steve

One thing I love about our wedding and event community here in the Flathead Valley of Northwest Montana is you often get to work with the same vendors on repeat occasions. One such occasion was getting a text from officiant Kate Berry just a couple of weeks after working with her on Ashley & Scott's perfect intimate wedding. Ana and Steve were on their way to Whitefish—with their two pups in tow!—to officially elope after a weeks-long, cross-country road trip complete with staged elopements with their respective families. Upon arrival in Montana, they encountered a freak blizzard which wasn't the most fun thing to drive through, but they made it safe and sound to the Hidden Moose Lodge, which is where I got to meet up with them for some getting ready shots and a first look. It was then off to West Glacier for the big event, some shots, and then portraits!

West Glacier Wedding Photographer, Ashley & Scott

Ashley and Scott had another wedding that was thankfully able to commence as originally planned despite COVID-19 and all the chaos that caused the wedding and event industry this year. From my first contact with them, they had always planned on a very intimate ceremony with just them and their immediate families at Glacier Raft Co. in West Glacier. And from there the plan was always to hop on down the road to Glacier National Park and the Apgar Village area for some "epic Montana scenery portraits," And Montana and Glacier delivered in spades. While the rain did cause the slightest bit of disruption just prior to the exchange of vows, that just meant conditions were ripe for a perfect timed rainbow while we did family photos in the park. And... well just check out the photos, because words simply won't do it justice.

Glacier National Park Wedding Photographer, Allyn & Nicholas

Allyn and Nicholas were my first of two wedding couples from Illinois in the span of five days, and my first wedding that actually took place inside Glacier National Park. Though initially, that was not the plan. Originally I should've been making this blog post this past spring. Of course, we all know what happened throughout the world in March. COVID lock-downs for everyone! Thankfully they didn't allow that to completely scuttle their dreams of a Montana wedding and they rescheduled for this fall and it couldn't have been more perfect. Yes, there was intermittent rain, yes there ominous clouds that obscured the mountains occasionally. But without rain, you can't have a rainbow. A rainbow that spanned Lake McDonald just as they said their wedding vows. If that isn't a sign of a blessed marriage, I don't know what is.

While they weren't technically eloping, they had a sort of 'deluxe elopement' with a total headcount of fewer than twenty people with a ceremony at the Apgar Amphitheatre, portraits in that general vicinity thereafter, and finally a dinner to close out the festivities.

I am so glad the pandemic didn't spoil my chance to hangout and get to know Allyn and Nicholas more, and can't wait for them to come back and visit—hopefully often—in the future!

Whitefish Wedding Photographer, Tasha & Korey

I was fortunate to meet Tasha at the My Montana Wedding Inspiration Expo last fall. She was planning a modest, largely D.I.Y. wedding at North 40 Resort between Columbia Falls and Whitefish, and convenient for me just five minutes from my house!

Thanks to the modest size of the wedding and being comprised of primarily Tasha & Korey's immediate and extended family they were thankfully able to avoid much disruption to their plans due to COVID-19, and everything went off without a hitch. It was so much fun to hang out with them and their families during what was a laid back, fun- and love-filled evening among the trees.

In the not-to-distant future I'm looking forward to traipsing around Glacier National Park with this super friendly couple for an epic adventure portraits session.

Whitefish Wedding Photographer, Shona & Bradley

Like just about everyone in the wedding business this year, my summer bookings were all made prior to the worldwide pandemic created by COVID-19. Naturally, this placed a lot of wedding plans up in the air, and while Shona and Bradley were traveling from out-of-state, their plans were always for a more intimate wedding in the glorious outdoors that can be found at Lone Pine State Park and the beautiful grounds of Conrad Mansion in Kalispell. Also, any wedding where a friendly game of bocce ball breaks out is a successful wedding in my book. Congratulations to Shona & Bradley, thank you so much for including me in the festivities.

Whitefish Wedding Photographer, Lorene & Justin

Lorene & Justin's wedding should've taken place right in the thick of what was on pace to be my busiest wedding season ever. With the onset of COVID-19 however, it ended up being my first wedding this year, amongst a plethora of unfortunately canceled and rescheduled events.

Thankfully this super easy going couple already had a lot of things working in their favor. Even before the pandemic took hold in the United States, they had a limited guest list predominantly made up of family, and they were getting married at their house. Their day was made up of friends and family pitching in to get everything just so, and the decor was largely of the DIY variety, making for a laid back, intimate, fun affair.

Thank you Lorene and Justin for your trust in me, and your hospitality in welcoming me to your home.
