Abbey & Kyle’s Spring Montana Wedding at Diamond B Weddings

I couldn't wait to get Abbey and Kyle in front of my camera again after their engagement session in West Glacier this past Fall. They had planned a fairly large wedding here in Kalispell at Diamond B Weddings, which in addition to kicking off my 2024 wedding season, was also the same venue where I photographed my first ever Montana wedding back in 2018.

As is common for spring in Montana, the weather was a very big variable in terms of the plans for the ceremony location. Thankfully, in addition to the large heated event space Dimaond B added five years ago, the original barn is still there and was able to serve us well for the ceremony with a rainy, chilly forecast for the day.

Regardless of location, the day was always going to be filled with laughter, love, and smiles with Abbey and Kyle surrounded by over 150 friends and family.

Kalispell Wedding Photographer, Lindsay and Brady at Diamond B Weddings

One thing I always tell my wedding couples is that no matter how far out you begin planning, the wedding day will arrive before you know it. Time seems to accelerate the closer the big day comes. Lindsay and Brady's wedding was no exception. They booked my photography services 19 months ago, way back in 2021. Fast forward to the summer of this year and here we are!

This was such a fun and unique wedding, as just about everyone in the wedding both wedding parties and the bride and groom more or less grew up together. There's something really cool when everyone has that shared history together that makes the wedding day really intimate even though there are around 200 people there.

Kalispell Wedding Photographer, Leila & Jay at Diamond B Weddings

I don't want this post about Leila & Jay's wedding to sound like a paid promotion for another business that is completely unrelated to photography, but that is actually how I first met Jay. He runs Rocky Mountain Power Systems here in the Flathead Valley and was responsible for selling and installing an on-demand power generator at my house. And what I didn't know at the time was I'd actually met his mom through My Montana Wedding when I first joined the association.

Fast-forward a couple of months after his initial consultation visit to my house but I run into him at Kaite & Beau's wedding at Diamond B Weddings because—surprise!—Katie is Jay's youngest sister!

Then a few months ago I get a call from Jay saying he's found the love of his life and he's going to be getting married in January for a winter wedding. Naturally, I was more than happy to oblige, even with the stress of working in front of one of the Valley's long-established photographers Joanna Adams who was in the wedding as the Aunt of Leila.

It's a small world after all.

Kalispell Wedding Photographer, Cristine & Josh at Diamond B Weddings

You may recognize Cristine and Josh from this post a while back featuring a styled wedding session at Star Meadows Ranch. At the time they were engaged, but a few months later I was contacted by Cristine to check my availability for their actual wedding at Diamond B Weddings in Kalispell and if I would be interested in being their photographer. "Of course!" I remember exclaiming and the rest they say is history. Cristine and Josh were so much fun, and so kind, it was great to work with them—and Katie from Big Day Celebrations—again as they shared their actual wedding vows instead of just pretending to.

Kalispell Wedding Photographer, Katie & Beau at Diamond B Weddings

I am absolutely not trying to shame anyone, but did you know that grooms can do some of the heavy lifting of planning a wedding in addition to the bride? Beau and Katie's wedding was a great example of that. I dealt primarily with Beau throughout the booking process via email, phone, and text. He asked all kinds of great questions, and I couldn't wait to hang out with them on their wedding day. Even with all of those great conversations, I couldn't have possibly been prepared for how kind all of their friends and family were.

From helping wrangle a very large collection of family and extended family for formals to a delightful dance party to close out the night, we were made to feel like part of the family the whole evening. Also, check out one of my favorite "first look" reactions of all time. Ladies, find you a man who reacts like this when he sees you in your wedding dress.

Kalispell Wedding Photographer, Sofiya & Collin at Diamond B

I initially met Sofiya and Collin this past winter for their engagement session over in West Glacier and Glacier National Park. Despite the frigid temperatures and numb hands we had a great time and captured some really beautiful moments.

After that session, it was of course only a matter of time before their actual wedding day arrived. And in typical Montana fashion, the weather played a role in the proceedings. Of course, it is to be expected that a June wedding will be warmer than a winter engagement session. What isn't as expected is a mid-June in Montana in the mid-90s temperature-wise. They opted for a ceremony inside the smaller barn at Diamond B Weddings instead of the riverside ceremony spot which I think all involved agreed was the right decision. It kept everyone in the shade and provided just the right amount of intimacy for their small wedding.

Kalispell Wedding Photographer, Jaimee & Gavin at Diamond B Weddings

I don't think I could've asked for a better couple to share a wedding with for my first "Montana Wedding" than Jaimee and Gavin. From our first correspondence to their wedding day, they couldn't have been sweeter, or more welcoming. It was soon very clear myself and the rest of the vendors were going to be treated as if we were guests of the wedding, so the initial rain that threatened to put a damper on the evening quickly became a distant memory once it stopped, giving way to a beautiful ceremony and one breathtaking sunset to close out the night. Congratulations Jaimee and Gavin, and thank you so much for including me in the evening!
